Today Irpinia is certainly the most important vine growing area in the Campania region. The recent recognition of DOCG designation to Greco di Tufo and Fiano di Avellino, added to Taurasi, make this land unique in Southern Italy.
Grotta del Sole decided to be a part of this with its own vinification site in the town of Tufo, next to the 7 hectares of Greco di Tufo vineyard grown with the Guyot system producing 80 quintals per hectare. The Greco di Tufo and Fiano grapes are vinified on site and bottled in the Quarto cellar.
The Aglianico is produced with grapes from seven vineyards in the municipality of Castelfranci, in the area of Taurasi, six of which are grown using the traditional spoke system and one the Guyot system, for a production of about 80 quintals per hectare. The Aglianico grapes are vinified in Quarto and the wine is sold as IGT Campania.
