D.O.C (registered designation of origin) since 1994, this is where Grotta del Sole produces directly in 35 hectares (13 ownership and e 22 direct management). The remainder is bought from trusted partners. Today, it is still possible to grow vines on their own roots, without grafting, since the vine pest phyloxera cannot survive in this area because of the volcanic soil. Traditional falanghina vines planted are grown with a ‘puteolano' or ‘spalatrone' pole system. We produce 120 quintals per hectare, while the traditional vines of piedirosso are grown with the same system but the maximum production is 100 quintals per hectare.
Our own vines are driven with the monolateral guyot system with a density of 3,500 plants per hectare and a maximum production of 60 quintals per hectare. In the vines we manage we are studying a way to re-scaffold the ‘puteolano' system with Federico Curtaz.
