The company is founded in 1989, and the first two years of activities are dedicated to defining the project and building the winery.
In September 1991 the first experimental harvest of Falanghina dei Campi Flegrei takes place.
In January 1992 the company takes its name Grotta del Sole and starts the project.
The 1992 vintage also includes wines of the Agro Aversano, Gragnano, Lettere and Vesuvius.
1993 is the year of the registered designation of origin for the Asprinio di Aversa and 1994 for the Phlegraean Fields and the Sorrento Peninsula.
In February 1994 the first Grotta del Sole vineyard is planted at the company site in the municipality of Quarto.
The 1997 vintage marks the birth of reserves Coste di Cuma (falanghina) and Montegauro (piedirosso); the following year Quartodiluna (falanghina and coda di volpe) and Quartodisole (piedirosso and aglianico).
In January 2003 Attilio Pagli and Federico Curtaz join the company.
In 2000 the company Foglie di Amaltea S.r.l. is set up, which will open up the farm bearing the same name on lake Averno in the Phlegraean Fields.
In 2005 we rent a small farm in Tufo, with a 7ha attached vineyard for the production of Greco di Tufo and Fiano di Avellino.
In 2006 the vineyard Foglie di Amaltea is planted, with the advice of Luigi Bonato and the company Evoluzione Ambiente.
In 2007 the first contracts are signed with partners who decide to entrust Grotta del Sole with all the management; the vineyard managed directly reaches a surface of 42 hectares.
